We use it to manage all of our savings plans and RIs. We also use it for right-sizing opportunities and we use it to graph those optimization efforts to show the cost going down as optimization changes are happening.
  • It shows the visibility into the cost and a single pane of glass for all of our cloud providers, multiple products in those multi-cloud. So it shows us our spending across the cloud by vendor, by product, and by all the tags that we have in the cloud. So it gives us visibility into many different directions in our cost.
  • For me, it is a lot of anomaly detection and I think there's a lot of improvement that can be made to show anomalies that happen over time because if it's just day to day or week to week, you may not see the change. But if you see the trend over a period of time, show me something that has grown 40%, 50% over the past three months and maybe you can do those things and we just haven't figured them out yet. So we are very new to the product, but I think anomaly detection for me is one of the bigger things.
I think if you are maybe small in your cloud spend and you're only in one cloud, I think you can probably get away with just using the cost management tool in that cloud vendor. I don't think it's necessary for everyone and I think you have to have enough optimizations to have your return on investment, but it's certainly suited if you plan to grow and you're still small, get it now and don't wait.

Apptio Cloudability provides us insights into our cloud spend that we cannot get anywhere else. We don't get the granularity and assurance around our actual spend numbers from our cloud provider, unlike with Apptio Cloudability. After attending TBMC23, I'm extremely excited about new product offerings and the expansion of the platform. It's been very refreshing to know that we're taking the right steps in our TBM journey.
  • Accurate spend numbers
  • Reliable spend anomaly detection
  • Clear usage and rightsizing recommendations
  • Automating updates to Business mappings
  • User management; having separate systems to manage user access and permissions is burdensome
We have not gotten acceptance and usage across the entire organization, thus I cannot shout from the rooftops how great Apptio Cloudability is without better user engagement. However, TBMC has provided valuable strategies for improving our user engagement.

we use Apptio Cloudability help manager our public cloud cost and drive optimization. Our biggest challenge is getting application teams to take action in rightsizing recommendations and turning off when not in use. Our scope is all of enterprise cloud spend
  • ease of set up
  • ease of building reports
  • quick calculation time
  • ability to drive business mappings and views based on tables rather than scripts
  • IBM cloud spend
  • track rightsizing actions take
  • carbon impact of recommendations
well suited for anomaly detection, rightsizing. less suited for planning and sustainability estimates

We are a reseller of AWS, Azure, GCP, Oracle and IBM Cloud. We invoice our customers based on their usage as well as sell solutions deployed on those platforms.
  • multi-cloud usage
  • aggregation and segregation of usage across multi-cloud
  • anomly detection
  • feature parity across govcloud versions of cldy
  • meet higher compliance requirements (FedRAMP High, IL4 IL5)
well suited for individual application owners to see their usage, less so for a brokerage admin that manages multiple brokerages and require segregation. Eagerly await GA of CLDY for MSP

We use Apptio Cloudability in our bank to better manage the cost of our IT infrastructure on the cloud across multiple cloud providers. It helps us to choose best options for the deployment of our infrastructure in terms of Speed, cost, and quality. Different teams (Finance, Devops) collaborate together to understand the findings from this and make the decision for future use cases.
  • Budget management
  • Reducing Cloud costs
  • Forecasting
  • Cost allocation
  • Support for Other cloud provides apart from AWS, GCP and Azure
  • More granular insights into spending for each department by tagging
  • Advanced anomaly detection with AI
In my experience, Apptio Cloudability is best suited for a high-level overview of Cost reporting and management. It gives recommendations to optimize your cloud budget. For example, It will give recommendations by analyzing the past trends which types of machines an application should be using for its optimal performance. It also picks machines, and disks that are not used for long and it predicts any cost anomaly detection. It is less appropriate for other small cloud providers and user training.

We currently use Apptio Cloudability for the following key functions (not limited to) Rightsizing, Optimization, Cost Transparency. These details are in turn used to bring business value to different personas within the org. From procurement, to engineering to finance to executives to application owners and so forth. We also look at bringing in the cost details to ApptioOne
  • New Apptio BI reporting seems promising
  • Showcasing untagged costs
  • First step towards rightsizing and optimization explorations
  • Anomaly detection
  • Combined reporting views from the data sources
  • Showcasing the dependencies with the recommendations
  • Ability to effective allocate shared costs
Viewing first level information with regards to untagged costs and optimization opportunities. For further deep dives, viewing dependencies and even anomaly detection would look at the CSP functionality

FinOps tooling is critical to our operational success and value delivery - Apptio Cloudability acquired our current/previous FinOps engine "Cloudwiry" which has been an invaluable tool to date. Looking forward to continuing the success on Apptio Cloudability platform.
  • multi dashboard capability
  • Tagging alignment native in tool vs. CSP changes
  • Reservation "automation"
  • solid/credible rightsiging/optimizations
  • price point
  • reporting templates
Our firm is a TBM advocate where the Apptio One and Apptio Cloudability compliment each other and further bring finance/IT together to interpret value. Having that perspective is great for C-suite resources who many times do not do well with large complex numbers that cloud data can be filled with. We are a tremendously large shop - supporting over 800 applications/teams - and need that precision of show/chargeback in a tool that is not only easy for us - but compliments end user experience

Cloudabily helps us present and visualise Cloud cost in an effective way. It allows for cost allocation to enhance cost accountability. Provide good trend insight and low hanging fruit recommendations.
  • Easy to use UI
  • Customisation based on business dimension
  • Good reporting capacity that can be scheduled
  • TrueCost Explorer and RIghtsizing Explorer provides great overview
  • Anamolly detection will be more useful if it can leverage business dimensions
  • ASG recommendation are generally too aggressive, will be good to give option to choose the performance metric teams are willing to change and display the chosen metric
  • Chart visualisation can be improved, for example, using a consistent colour for a Product or Service Name, and have value labels to differentiate value for different section of the chart
Recommend if you're already using Apptio, qw can be integrated with other Apptio products, however Apptio BI needs more improvement to bring data from different modules and apply "view" of filter at the report level. Which is currently not supported.

We use cloudability for cloud cost reporting and optimization on Azure & AWS.
  • Cost reporting
  • AWS Rightsizing recommendations
  • True cost explorer
  • Azure rightsizing and RI recommendations
  • Utilization reporting
  • Anomaly detection
Well, in my opinion, Cloudability is performing very well in the current market that is filled with cloud cost management tools like Turbonomics, Cloudzero and many more. But I want to emphasize that it isn't GCP-ready yet and lacks some maturity with Azure as well.

  • Single source of truth for cost and usage reporting across multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure & GCP).
  • Significantly leverage Business Dimensions & Business Metrics to respectively create custom mappings & custom equations that are inputs into many of our financial reporting processes.
  • Apptio Cloudability API leveraged to expose cost data to PowerBI for operational reporting alongside other business data (Salesforce).
  • End users are granted access to their Views based on data they need to see & are enabled with dashboards and reports to track and manage their own spend.
  • FinOps power users leverage RI, SP and CUD purchasing modules to help make purchase decisions.
  • In-month forecast estimation (not perfect feature, but good enough for directional updates).
  • Business Mappings API
  • Granular Reporting
  • Relatively easy to configure with IaaS vendors
  • Cost Reallocation - Not offered for Multi-Tenant, Cost Sharing is a Beta feature that is very limited in function & not able to reallocate rules
  • Resource Inventory - big gap vs. what CloudHealth offers, beta feature is good but it can't save/subscribe to reports
  • Anomaly detection - feature highlights trivial cost rises & consistently misses the real anomalies
Very well suited for multi-cloud environments where you need a single source of truth for reporting + custom mappings for data. The Business Mappings features is extremely functional & the Dashboard features are as close to a Visualization tool as you will find. Customers with monolithic architectures will get a lot of value out of Right Sizing, and the RI/SP purchasing provide very good (if sometimes confusing) recommendations.
Apptio Cloudability is not a fit for multi-tenant reallocation/telemetry cost. As we expand into these type of architectures, it would be the top reason we evaluate other tools.

Apptio Cloudability provides a user friendly way for Technology and Finance to align on cloud spend. We are using it for creating savings report and get helps getting the rightsizing recommendations.
  • Dashboard creation
  • Reports
  • Rightsizing recommendations
  • Latency issues while running reports
  • Add features to get Stopped instances list
  • Need cloudwatch related features to optimize the usage
Clouability is well suited for getting actual cloud usage, cloud forecasts and dashboards. Some of the rightsizing recommendations are less appropriate.

We use Cloudability for cost visibility into our cloud spend across various cloud platforms. We create dashboards and reports to provide stakeholders with information about spend related to specific applications or business units. This is also used for anomaly detection to understand when we may be deviating from expected and forecasted spend.
  • Cost visibility
  • Optimization recommendations
  • Anomaly detection
  • On-prem cost reporting
  • SaaS reporting
  • Oracle Cloud support
Cloudability is excellent for cost reporting and aggregating spend from various cloud providers. This was a task performed manually using spreadsheets in the past and disconnected business intelligence tools, however, Cloudability can help us automate and steamline this process which also helps to reduce resource hours. The forecasting reports are helpful, however, we need additional data for it to be accurate.

Apptio Cloudability gives us the insights to run efficiently. We use Reserved Instances Rightsizing and Anomalies to ensure our spend is in line with Budgets and in control. It also ensures that our billing is properly allocated to the cost centers based on the tagging. The ease of creating ad box reports also allows senior leadership to see results easily.
  • Charts and Graphs
  • Ad hoc reporting
  • Billing
  • Aligning budgets to actuals
  • Sit side by side w CT
Apptio Cloudability provides insight into our ever-growing cloud consumption. The use of optimization allows us to better manage our costs.

We just started with Apptio Cloudability. I'm impressed with the ease of setting it up (after getting over internal hurdles). The reports are very useful. This application is very useful in demonstrating the value of cloud spend.
  • Easy installation
  • Valuable out-of-the-box reporting.
  • Simple, integrated security.
  • Have only set up Azure so looking forward to seeing how difficult it will be to integrate other cloud service providers.
Tag validation is a snap. Easy to slice and dice costs. Automatic Anomaly Detection Build in scorecards give stakeholders a reason to engage.

We use Apptio Cloudability primarily to aggregate and track ongoing cloud spending for Azure & AWS (and eventually Google Cloud). We also use it to forecast future spending, identify virtual instances that might be good candidates for reservations, notify us of possible spending anomalies, and review detailed spending when needed. We previously used Power BI but it wasn't scalable, updating old tag data was extremely slow, and it didn't easily connect to AWS data (or at least not as easy as it does to Azure data).
  • Changing historical tag data when things change through "Business Dimensions"
  • Amortizing one-time costs over a period of time, such as reservation purchases
  • Creating visuals is intuitive
  • TrueCost Explorer feature is responsive and very easy to use
  • Sharing filtered data through reports, dashboards, and visuals is easy
  • Responsive technical support and customer teams
  • Slow to implement larger Apptio functionality due to Cloudability not being a native Apptio application
  • While improvements have been made, feature parity across major clouds is still not there
  • For Azure, Rightsizing functionality has not been updated to take advantage of new memory metric monitoring
  • Challenging to share reports & visuals with those not registered to use Cloudability
  • Reports are very generic; basically just glorified tables
  • Cannot customize visuals (colors, text size, etc)
  • While I appreciate the "no-configuration required" nature of Anomaly Detection, it can generate a lot of false positives
  • User management is very generic and not integrated with Apptio platform very well
Compared to other cloud cost management tools I have tried in the past, Apptio Cloudability is the easiest to use and has the most attractive visuals. While it does not have full feature parity for the three major clouds, it does better than alternative tools. Maintaining historical tag accuracy through Business Dimension is also implemented very well. I don't personally find their optimization features very useful, especially in regards to Azure.

I use it for reporting on AWS costs by product, service and team, and for analysis and investigation of anomalies. I also use it as a health dashboard for our AWS spend, meaning that I check my personalized dashboard every day. It has a variety of widgets that compare current trends with historical patterns as a way of identifying anomalous patterns or confirming expected changes. Finally, I configure dashboards for individual Engineering and Data Operations teams so that they can stay aware of the cost impact of their consumption.
  • Enriching tags with additional data sources
  • Allowing for multi-year analysis
  • Analysis of achieved savings through various discount programs
  • It's slower than AWS Cost Explorer
  • The conditional filters require too many clicks to use
  • I don't trust the resource utilization data on the cost widgets. When I've looked at it, which has been sparingly, the data makes no sense for our environment.
It's better than native tools if you use multiple clouds. It's good for reporting, especially allowing for enriching data by adding other data sets to resource tags. It has a wide variety of graphics for widgets. It is easy to administer, which grows in importance as your user base grows. If you want a tool that excels at providing optimization recommendations, I think you will be disappointed. Also, if you want to driver-based forecasting, as opposed to forecasting based solely on historical trends, it is no help. I can't figure out how to create custom metrics, so it's limited in terms of calculating unit economics. Also, they should have a one-click way to get a report into Google Sheets, like Jira does. It would save me several steps every time I need to export a report into CSV for analysis.
